WordPress to Framer Migration: Process, SEO and Timeline
Moving from WordPress to Framer takes 6–10 weeks for a full marketing site, or 5 days for a single landing page. Here is how a rankings-safe migration works, from the WordPress export and plugin replacement to 301 redirects, what Framer's CMS can and can't do, what it costs, and when staying on WordPress is the better call.

Short answer: a WordPress to Framer migration with Trueform takes 6–10 weeks for a full marketing site and 3–5 months for a multi-product, multi-language site; a single landing page moves in 5 days. You export posts and pages from WordPress, clean out shortcodes and page-builder markup, import the content into Framer CMS collections, replace plugins with Framer’s built-in SEO, forms, localization and hosting, and set a 301 redirect for every URL that changes. Done properly, rankings carry over and the site gets faster, because there is no theme, plugin stack or server left to maintain.
Why are marketing teams moving from WordPress to Framer?
Most WordPress marketing sites run on a theme, a page builder such as Elementor or Divi, and 5–15 plugins for SEO, forms, caching and security. Every one of them needs updates, and every layout change goes through a developer. Framer replaces that stack with one platform: a visual canvas, a structured CMS, managed hosting on a global CDN, and native localization, analytics and A/B testing. Your marketing team edits and publishes pages without tickets.
WordPress is still the right tool for some sites. If you need its plugin ecosystem, server-side code or full ownership of the hosting, staying is a valid choice. Our WordPress vs. Framer comparison covers that decision in detail.
Should you migrate from WordPress to Framer?
Move to Framer if:
Your site is a marketing site. Product pages, landing pages, a blog, case studies, careers, docs-light content.
Marketing wants to ship without developers. Campaign pages, new sections and copy changes should go live the same day.
Plugin maintenance and security updates cost you time. Framer has no plugins to patch and no server to harden.
Design matters to your brand. A redesign is overdue, and you want a design system your team can build new pages from.
Stay on WordPress if:
You run WooCommerce or a membership site. Framer is not a full e-commerce or member-area platform.
You depend on plugins with no Framer equivalent, such as LMS, booking engines, forums or complex custom post logic.
You publish thousands of posts with a newsroom workflow. Multi-step editorial approvals, scheduled publishing at scale and very large archives fit WordPress better.
Engineers need server-side code or a database you control.
How does a WordPress to Framer migration work?
We don’t copy the old theme 1:1. We redesign and rebuild the site natively in Framer, then move the content into it. These are the steps:
1. Audit and content model mapping
We crawl the live site and list every page, post type, taxonomy and URL, plus every active plugin and what it does. Then we map WordPress content to Framer CMS collections: posts become a Blog collection, custom post types such as case studies or jobs get their own collections, and categories, tags and authors become reference fields or their own small collections. Pages built in a page builder are redesigned as Framer pages, not imported.
2. Export from WordPress
WordPress exports content under Tools → Export as an XML file in the WXR format. For bulk imports, we convert that file to CSV, or sync posts directly with a Framer Marketplace plugin such as WP Sync, which imports posts and custom post types but not WordPress pages. Before exporting, we take a full backup of the database and files, so nothing is lost if the old site needs to be checked later.
3. Clean up rich text and shortcodes
WordPress content is full of shortcodes, page-builder wrappers, inline styles and empty tags. We strip those, keep clean HTML (headings, paragraphs, lists, links, images, quotes) and rebuild anything interactive, such as galleries, buttons or embedded forms, as Framer components or CMS fields. This is also when we fix weak headings, outdated posts and thin pages instead of migrating them as they are.
4. Import into Framer CMS
Framer’s CSV import matches columns to existing fields by name. Each item needs a unique slug, rich text has to be HTML, dates use ISO 8601 and images need absolute URLs, which Framer downloads and hosts itself. We import in batches, check a sample of items against the live site, and fix formatting before moving on.
5. Images and assets
Images from /wp-content/uploads/ are pulled into Framer, which serves them optimized and resized from its CDN. We check alt text, replace oversized or low-quality images and move PDFs and downloads, so no file still points at the old server.
6. URL structure and 301 redirects
WordPress URLs come in many shapes: /blog/post-name/, date-based /2024/05/post-name/, /category/news/, /tag/framer/, /author/name/ and old /?p=123 links. We keep URLs wherever we can and export the full list into a redirect map. Framer supports single redirects, wildcards and named segments, for example /:year/:month/:slug to /blog/:slug, and you can bulk-import redirects from a CSV with Framer’s Redirect Sync plugin. Query-string URLs like /?p=123 need testing before launch. We avoid redirect chains and keep redirects in place for at least a year. The basics are in our website migration glossary entry.
7. SEO metadata and structured data
Titles and meta descriptions from Yoast or Rank Math move into Framer’s per-page and per-item SEO settings, along with Open Graph images and canonical URLs. We add JSON-LD structured data, check the XML sitemap, and add an llms.txt file so AI answer engines can read the site.
8. Localization
If you run WPML or Polylang, each language becomes a Framer locale with its own URL path, translated CMS content and automatic hreflang tags. We map old language URLs to the new ones and redirect them per locale. Framer prices extra translation locales as an add-on, so check Framer’s pricing page for the current rate. More on this in our localization entry.
9. Forms and integrations
Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms and WPForms are replaced by Framer’s native forms, which can send submissions to email or to your tools through integrations and webhooks. HubSpot, Typeform or Calendly stay as embeds. Analytics, tag managers and cookie consent move into Framer’s site settings or custom code. Anything that needs server-side logic is reviewed one by one.
10. QA and launch
We test every template across breakpoints, run every redirect, compare the old and new crawl, and check Core Web Vitals. The Framer site is built in parallel, so the switch is a DNS change with zero downtime. After launch, we resubmit the sitemap in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools and watch indexing, 404s and rankings for the following weeks.
What can Framer’s CMS do compared with WordPress?
Checked against Framer’s pricing page and Framer’s help and developer docs on 4 November 2026:
Need | WordPress | Framer |
Content types | Posts, pages, custom post types | CMS collections with text, rich text, image, file, link, date, option, reference and multi-reference fields |
Content volume | Effectively unlimited, depends on hosting | Pro: 10 collections and 2,500 items, expandable with add-ons to 40 collections and 40,000 items; Enterprise has custom limits |
Redirects | Plugin, or at server level | Built in on Pro and above, with wildcards, up to 2,500 redirects per project |
SEO | Yoast or Rank Math plugin | Built in: titles, descriptions, Open Graph, sitemaps, canonical URLs |
Languages | WPML or Polylang plugin | Native locales with hreflang, priced per locale |
Forms | Plugin | Native forms, or embeds |
Hosting and security | Your host, caching and security plugins | Managed hosting on a global CDN, nothing to patch |
E-commerce and members | WooCommerce, membership plugins | Not a full e-commerce or member platform; use embeds or keep a separate system |
The practical limit for most marketing sites is the item count. A blog with a few hundred posts fits comfortably. An archive with tens of thousands of posts is the point to decide what is still worth keeping, or whether WordPress should stay.
Will we lose SEO rankings when moving from WordPress to Framer?
Not when the migration is done properly. Rankings drop when redirects are missed, metadata is lost or pages with backlinks disappear. We map every URL, carry over titles, descriptions and content, and redirect anything that moves. Framer serves pre-rendered pages from a global CDN, which usually improves load times compared with a plugin-heavy WordPress install. Expect some movement in the first weeks while search engines recrawl, and check Search Console for 404s after launch.
How long does a WordPress to Framer migration take?
Scope | Timeline | Typical size |
Landing page | 5 days | One page, one conversion goal |
Marketing site | 6–10 weeks | 10+ pages, blog or CMS, redesign |
Enterprise site | 3–5 months | 50+ pages, multi-product, multi-language, large archive |
For comparison, GCS went live on Framer with hundreds of pages and around 30 CMS collections in under three months. Our timelines guide explains what speeds a project up or slows it down.
What does a WordPress to Framer migration cost?
You will find agencies that move a WordPress site to Framer in 1–5 weeks for a few thousand dollars. That is usually a 1:1 copy of the old design. Our projects are a redesign plus rebuild: positioning, a new design system, the CMS, content migration, redirects, SEO and AEO, and training for your team. That is why they take 6–10 weeks.
Pricing is fixed scope and follows our Solutions page: a Marketing Website starts at $25K and a Marketing Platform at $49K (Swiss clients: from CHF 20’000 and from CHF 40’000, excl. VAT). A single page can move in our 5-day Landing Page Sprint. To get a number for your site, book a discovery call.
What moves over from WordPress, and what gets rebuilt?
Content: posts, custom post types, categories, tags and authors move into Framer CMS collections.
Design: the theme and page-builder layouts are redesigned and rebuilt natively in Framer, as a component library your team can reuse.
URLs and metadata: kept where possible, redirected with a 301 where they change.
Plugins: replaced by Framer features (SEO, forms, localization, analytics, hosting) or kept as embeds.
Domain and email: your domain stays yours and is pointed at Framer; email is unaffected.
FAQ
How do I migrate from WordPress to Framer?
Audit your pages, posts and plugins, export content from WordPress as XML, clean out shortcodes, and import it into Framer CMS collections by CSV or a sync plugin. Rebuild the design in Framer, replace plugins with native features, set a 301 redirect for every changed URL, carry over metadata, and switch DNS once QA is done.
How long does a WordPress to Framer migration take?
With Trueform, 6–10 weeks for a full marketing site, 3–5 months for a multi-product or multi-language site and 5 days for a single landing page. A 1:1 copy can be faster, but it doesn’t fix the design or the content.
Can Framer import WordPress posts?
Yes. Export your posts from WordPress as XML, convert them to CSV and import them into a Framer CMS collection, or use a Marketplace plugin such as WP Sync to import posts and custom post types directly. WordPress pages are usually rebuilt in Framer rather than imported.
Will we lose Google rankings when we leave WordPress?
Not when the migration is done properly. Set a 301 redirect for every URL that changes, keep titles, descriptions and content, and resubmit the sitemap after launch. Many sites load faster on Framer than on a plugin-heavy WordPress install.
What replaces WordPress plugins in Framer?
SEO plugins are replaced by Framer’s built-in SEO settings, form plugins by native forms, WPML or Polylang by native localization, caching and security plugins by Framer’s managed hosting, and redirect plugins by Framer’s redirect settings.
How much does a WordPress to Framer migration cost?
Trueform’s migrations are fixed scope: a full marketing site starts at $25K (CHF 20’000) and a multi-product platform at $49K (CHF 40’000), both a redesign plus rebuild. Book a discovery call to get a number for your site.
